tip
Choose the thermometer category first
The target depends on the food and may include a required rest.
Try this
Before cooking, find the food’s category in Check with a thermometer. Have the adult use the appropriate food thermometer and follow the displayed minimum-temperature and rest guidance.
Why it helps
A timer and browned surface do not measure the temperature inside the food. Different food categories have different requirements.
When it applies
Use this for foods covered by the verified minimum-temperature chart, including the specific categories identified in the safety lesson.
Keep in mind
A reading is useful only when the thermometer is used correctly. Do not choose a target from a different food category or omit a required rest because the food looks done.
A reading record for your pathways. It does not certify a kitchen or a skill.
