tip
Give thawing a place in the plan
Move the decision earlier so the counter does not become the default.
Try this
Plan refrigerator thawing ahead, following the food’s package directions and the cold-storage lesson. Keep raw animal foods contained so their juices do not reach other foods.
Why it helps
A refrigerator provides a controlled cold environment while the food thaws; leaving perishable food on the counter can allow unsafe warming.
When it applies
Use this when a recipe begins with frozen meat, poultry, seafood or another perishable ingredient that needs thawing.
Keep in mind
Thawing time varies with the food and its size. If plans change, consult the specific storage guidance; do not infer safety from a still-frozen center or a familiar smell.
