Play & Practice / Kitchen Timeline Challenge

First this. Then what?

Build a kitchen plan that makes sense for the tasks—and the people doing them.

01 / Choose a kitchen question

What needs to
happen first?

There is more than one useful order. Arrange the tasks, then check their dependencies and who needs to be available.

A no-heat herb observation

Get matched samples ready, make an observation, and leave the work area ready for the next person.

Move tasks with the buttons, or focus a move button and use Alt + ↑ / ↓. Moving a card resets starts to a sequence. Then edit start minutes to explore parallel work: an adult can work alongside a learner; passive waiting occupies neither person.

  1. learner · Active · 3 min estimate

    Record what you noticed

Describe the actual comparison without treating an impression as a measurement.

    Needs: Observe the comparison

    Minute 0–3

  2. learner · Active · 3 min estimate

    Clean hands and workspace

Learner prepares a clean work area with adult support.

    Needs: No earlier task

    Minute 3–6

  3. adult · Active · 2 min estimate

    Make two sample labels

Adult writes Whole and Bruised on paper beside the dishes.

    Needs: No earlier task

    Minute 6–8

  4. learner · Active · 4 min estimate

    Prepare matched herb samples

Use the full experiment for the matched portions and gentle spoon action.

Needs: Clean hands and workspace; Make two sample labels

    Minute 8–12

  5. learner · Active · 2 min estimate

    Observe the comparison

This observation needs its samples prepared first. Smelling is optional.

    Needs: Prepare matched herb samples

    Minute 12–14

  6. learner · Active · 4 min estimate

    Discard samples and clean tools

Keep observation samples separate from food intended for eating.

    Needs: Record what you noticed

    Minute 14–18

Handling sources & model limits

Authored dependency models; durations are estimates, not observed kitchen trials. Sources checked 2026-09-25. Model version 1. Durations are planning estimates; physical kitchen trials remain pending.
