fact
Cold feel, same temperature
Your hand senses the effect of heat transfer.
A metal surface and a wooden surface in the same room can feel different at the same temperature.
Metal can carry energy away from your warmer hand more rapidly, cooling the skin and producing a stronger cold sensation. Touch therefore does not provide a direct temperature comparison. Use the matched ice investigation to explore heat transfer without testing hot objects by hand.
A reading record for your pathways. It does not certify a kitchen or a skill.

Behind the explanation
- Exploratorium: Cold Metal ↗
Room-temperature materials can feel different because they remove heat from a hand at different rates; touch does not directly measure their temperature.
