fact
A stem has water routes
Colored water can reveal a pathway that is usually hard to notice.
Water moving through a plant does not simply soak through one giant empty tube.
Xylem is specialized transport tissue. Evaporation from leaves helps create tension that draws water along its pathways, supported by water’s cohesion and adhesion. A colored-water investigation can reveal where some of that water traveled; it does not show every force or measure osmosis by itself.
A reading record for your pathways. It does not certify a kitchen or a skill.

Behind the explanation
- OpenStax Biology: Transport of Water and Solutes in Plants ↗
Water potential combines solute and pressure effects; transpiration drives water movement through xylem, supported by cohesion and adhesion.
