tip
Make the observation space before the mess
A prepared notebook helps you capture the run that actually happened.
Try this
Before starting, create spaces for sample name, planned check, actual elapsed time and observation. Leave a final space for anything that differed from the plan.
Why it helps
It is easier to record a delayed start or spill immediately than to reconstruct it after the activity.
When it applies
Use this for repeated checks such as oil-water separation, apple color or yeast bubbling.
Keep in mind
Blank or missed observations should remain identifiable. Do not fill gaps with the illustration’s expected result or silently replace the first run with a later one.
A reading record for your pathways. It does not certify a kitchen or a skill.

Behind the explanation
- Science Buddies: Conducting an Experiment ↗
Prepare a recording table, document observations and departures from the plan, and repeat tests when possible rather than discarding inconvenient results.
